VOC (Volatile organic compounds) regulations are changing rapidly across the USA and Canada. Not all of the stains that we sell are compliant for all areas. As it stands 16 US states and Canada have adopted the more stringent 250 regulation:

TWP 100 Series and TWP Semi-Solid Pro-Series is not VOC Compliant for Canada and these USA states and cannot be shipped or used there: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Northern VA, Pennsylvania, Parts of Arizona, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, all of Canada.

TWP 1500 Series is compliant for all 50 States but cannot be shipped or used in Canada.

TWP 200 Series is compliant for all 50 States and Canada.

I have a four year old deck in Pennsylvania that was never stained. it has mold and is very grey. Can I just use the two part Restore a deck and then stain it?

Hello, we have a pressure treated deck which has had its share of abuse.  We used to seal with Thompson’s, but it lifted and was a constant thorn.  We were suffering damage year to year so we made the horrible decision to use deck-over.  It worked great for a bunch of years and then the last few years life got in the way of taking care of it.  This year, I used a pressure washer and took off as much as possible and will need to scrape off the rest, then sand because it caused deep furrows.  I live in upstate New York.  What should I use?

You will have to remove it fully by power sanding it all off.

Thank you, yes...I am renting a drum sander.  I wasn’t clear with my question.  After I finish preparing the deck fully, what product in your line should I then use?

I live in Louisiana which is VOC compliant. My question is, is it better to use the 100 series vs the 1500 series?

Either is fine but most use the 100 Series.

How do I dispose of old cans of TWP? Will my local hazardous waste collection site accept this?

Let the stain harden inside and then you can throw away in trash. To harden, leave top off to dry or add kitty litter.

Better solution ... check with your local landfill disposal site ... many take paints and stains - ours does it the 3rd Saturday of each month. No charge to county residents and you know it is being handled correctly.

Can you ship to area code 23009 in Virginia? As I read the laws, we are outside the emission control areas of Northern Va, Fredericksburg, and Richmond.

Previously stained deck (old PTP. Northern VT, south facing) with TWP 100. Any prep concerns before I use 1500 this time? I guess the VOC laws have changed since 2018? Thanks!

Can a sample of Rustic be added to black walnut, both 1500 series, to achieve a slightly redder tint? I'm trying to match a pergola we purchased. Basically, can i mix these colors myself?

I stained my deck a few years ago with TWP 100, and it's time to re-stain this spring. Do I need to strip/sand the previous TWP 100 prior to re-staining with a new batch of TWP 100?

What is your suggestion for staining/sealing 10 year old treated wood (pine?) on a dock over salt water in South Carolina. Plan to lightly pressure wash first.

We are in Colorado. House and decks stained with Pecan/TWP 100. High sun areas do not bead water - does that indicate it is time to restrain? It has been 4 years. Which product do you recommend since 100 is not an option?

Use the TWP 1500. Decks typically need to be redone every 2-3 years. House will last 4-7. Proabbly time to redo the deck.

My question is can I stain Ceder wood with TWP 1502 Redwood stain tone ? Or should just keep it Cedertone?

I am new to staining and have been doing lot of research and found TWP could be the best to restore the used Ceder swing set I just bought.

    Appreciate any responses
