VOC (Volatile organic compounds) regulations are changing rapidly across the USA and Canada. Not all of the stains that we sell are compliant for all areas. As it stands 16 US states and Canada have adopted the more stringent 250 regulation:

TWP 100 Series and TWP Semi-Solid Pro-Series is not VOC Compliant for Canada and these USA states and cannot be shipped or used there: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Northern VA, Pennsylvania, Parts of Arizona, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, all of Canada.

TWP 1500 Series is compliant for all 50 States but cannot be shipped or used in Canada.

TWP 200 Series is compliant for all 50 States and Canada.

We have a marine plywood clad garage that originally was finished with Sikkens Cetol (clear) but exposure and poor initial application has resulted in pretty faded/worn/ugly cladding.  The marine ply now has a rough surface but cannot be sanded since there won't be any thing left if we do!  Can we use the 100 series in a color over the old Cetol surface?  What prep would be needed?  We are in Seattle area.  Thanks!

I live in Western NY where the wind literally scrapes the snow across our wood deck and removes the semi-transparent stain I've been using - thus requiring an annual re-application.    The previous semi-transparent stain was Olympic Maximum. Which cleaning kit would be recommended before applying the recommended TWP series? Would I be better off with the 1500 series or the Pro?  And do they both destroy mildew?   Thanks.

What series is TWF Shake and Vertical Surface Sealant and what happens if you use it on a deck, since I just bought (still unopened) this for my deck?

We responded to your questions earlier. It is below.

It is not suggested for decks as it cant take many days to dry and cure.

We used TWP shake and surface sealant on our deck 2-3 years ago.  I accidentally bought TWP Shake and vertical surface sealant recently.  Are both OK for our deck?  Any trouble using the latter over the former?  Any preferences between them?  Which series is each of these in?  Thanks.

Thre is only one version of TWP for shakes and shingles and that is the 200 Series. There has never been a separate version just for decks.

Is TWP acceptable for a grill table?  We have two BGE smokers and would like to match the stained floors.  If not, what stains have similar color to TWP?

What is the difference between your semi-solid and semi-transparent stains?   And where is that state list for compliance.  Missouri and Ill is of interest..   thanks

The state lists is above on this page. Difference is that the semi solids has higher solid content of color and will give better UV protection.

I am in zip code 82633 and can use TWP 100. Would that still be preferable to TWP 1500 or 200?? Why? I am using it on a rough cut cedar pergola. Thank you!

You can use the 100 Series in WY. Any of the series would work equally well for your area and your rough sawn wood.

Soon we will have sanded-and-brightened old wavy cedar siding, facing south in Florida, ready to stain, with all-day sun to consider.  Picture attached.  Am I right in thinking that not only would the Semi-Solid Pro Series be more protective than the 100 but a darker color in the Pro would give the wood even more protection?

No need to sand. Strip and brighen for prep. The semi-solid will give better Uv protection than the 100 Series. Any color will work.

        1.  Does the deep penetration of 100 "make up" for having less UV protection than the semi-solid? 2.   The 100 has some UV protection in it anyway, doesn't it?
