VOC (Volatile organic compounds) regulations are changing rapidly across the USA and Canada. Not all of the stains that we sell are compliant for all areas. As it stands 16 US states and Canada have adopted the more stringent 250 regulation:

TWP 100 Series and TWP Semi-Solid Pro-Series is not VOC Compliant for Canada and these USA states and cannot be shipped or used there: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Northern VA, Pennsylvania, Parts of Arizona, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, all of Canada.

TWP 1500 Series is compliant for all 50 States but cannot be shipped or used in Canada.

TWP 200 Series is compliant for all 50 States and Canada.

What is the difference between the 100, the 1500 series and the semi-solid pro series? I live in New Jersey and from your website it noted above that I can only use the 1500 product. Am I at a disadvantage using the 1500?
    • We will reply to your comment shortly
      TWP Stains · 06/17/2023
VOCs, you are not allowed to use the 100 Series or Semi-solid colors in NJ. No disadvantage with the 1500 Series. It works and lasts the same as the 100 Series.

Cedar and pine wood cannot stain the exact same color when using a semi-transparent stain. The wood itself will highlight differently based on the wood type.

Can 100 series be shipped to Michigan now that our laws are changing

Since we are based in MI, we can see the 100 Series until we run out of what we currently have on the ground which was purchased prior to the final implementation date of the VOC change. We expect to run out of inventory bought prior to the changes by June of this year.

Thank you so I own a deck restoration company here and have been using 100 series for years. Is the 1500 similar in longevity and application/appearance/functionality

Lasts the same. The main difference is the colors are slightly richer in the 1500 Series and it takes a little longer to dry.

Can I use the semi-solid stain in Illinois? Below you mention you will be offering a low VOC for some states. We have a 4 year old deck in full sun around a pool and would like to stain it with the best stain possible to last. Below are pictures. We will power wash and clean before applying any stain. I assume we will need two coats?

No, the Semi-solid is not allowed in IL. That may change later in the year but currently, it is not.

Getting ready to clean/brighten and then semi-transparent stain a PTP deck that was installed just over a year ago. Can’t decide if we should use oil or water based? It gets some direct sun but is under a tree, will get dirty, and we live in a place with hot, humid summers and mild, some snow winters. Any suggestions? Also,l concerned about ease of application, we are not professionals but want it to look nice.

Hi - do you have a date as to when the Semi-Solid Pro Series will be available in low VOC states? (CO)

Based on a previous TWP response to a question below:
    TWP Stains · 03/18/2023
Currently, the Semi-Solid colors are not allowed to be used in PA. We will be offering a low VOC version of the Semi-Solid colors this Spring that can be allowed in PA and other low VOC states.
