TWP 100 Series 1 Gallon Deck Stain
I have a 5 year old deck made of Home Depot’s Cedar toned pine decking. I power washed yesterday. Which TPW should I use; 100 or 1500? My wife wants the pecan stain.
Where do you live?
Since this is a “wet on wet” method, and it takes a good 1 to 2 days for it to fully dry. How long do I wait between applications?? Particularly on vertical surfaces
https://www.twpstainhelp.com/twp-stain-wet-on-wet-application/
I am almost finished treating my cedar deck with TWP 115 Honeytone. The color looks like pine, which is not what I was hoping for. Since I’ve only applied 1 coat, can I apply a 2nd coat with the Cedartone and hope it changes the look? (And stick with the Cedartone for future applications).
No, not now. Second coats have to be wet on wet. You can prep and recoat in the Spring.
I used your TWP 100 series Honeytone in the summer of 2020. I am in the process of lightly power washing the mildew but trying not to take off the several layers of honeytone i used in 2020. I am thinking of using a light coat of the TWP clear so as to not darken the pine logs of my home. Is this a good idea or should I use a light coat of the honeytone? Thanks
Use the same color as you used prior, not the clear.
Hello,
I stained my cedar deck with TWP Dark Oak, if I want to stain it Cape Cod Gray do I need to strip the deck first and if so what product do I use or can I stain over the Dark Oak?

Hi. I would like to understand what is the best TWP product for a wood fence. Not sure wood type maybe pine or cypress Pic attached. It is not smooth, it has a rough finish, that we like. The fence is about 3 years old and has never had any product on it so it is gray. We are having a professional cleaner to use proper chemicals to remove the gray and also a brightener to bring the pH back to the wood. My husband and I are staining the fence. Fence is in sun most all day. What is the best TWP product to use for this project? I plan to order samples. Also will this fence require one or two coats? Which application instructions would we use for our fence? Thank you
Use the TWP 1500 Series. 2 coats applied wet on wet. https://www.twpstainhelp.com/twp-stain-wet-on-wet-application/
Well our hired cleaners could not remove the grey from our fence without the fuzzies. So We are considering new wood. What is the application procedures? And which stain should we use on the new wood?
Fuzzies are not a big deal so not sure why you would want to spend many $1000s on new wood. Fuzzies will probably come back eventually.
I thought the fuzzies, if not sanded would cause uneven stain??
Maybe a little but when applying 2 coats, it should look good when done.
First picture it appears the gray is off but there is a lot of fuzzies. Second picture fuzzy is not as bad but there is still gray.
Hello, I have a Douglas Fir T&G porch that I have used TWP 100 clear on since it was installed in 2020. Part of the porch gets some sun and other parts do not due to the porch being covered by a roof. In order to balance out the colors I think i need to blend clear with a semi-transparent plus give the sunned area some UV protection. What other color would work best to bring out the natural color of the Douglas Fir and even out the coloration between the worn and less worn areas?
The proper way to do this is to strip off the clear and then brighten the wood.
https://www.twpstain.com/restore-a-deck-stripper-brightener-kit-detail
You will then have an even surface to work with. Use a tinted color, not the clear again. Trying to blend will not work well.
Is a sealer recommended over TWP100 for a fence in rainy PNW?
No, you cannot top coat over the TWP.
We applied twp pro 100 for in dark oak. 4 hours later it rain and I have water spots on the deck. How can I remove the water spots?
It is not possible to just remove the water spots from the rain. If it does not dry and go away in the next few days, you would have to strip off the stain and start over if you want to fix this.
I would like to seal some new teak patio furniture we have and keep the original wood color. Would the 100 series (clear) work well on teak? Does the clear provide any UV protection? Thank you.
Clear does not provide UV protection. It must be a tinted color to provide UV protection from graying.
Thank you.
I applied TWP Pecan 120 to my deck floor with no rain in the forecast & 7 hours later it down poured. What impact will this have on the new stain I applied & is there anything I can do that would help at this point?
It is most likely okay. You would visibly see water spots if any issues.
Can you help me choose the best TWP stain product for my old cedar shingle sided cottage in Michigan (all seem to apply when I read about them). I just power washed the siding with a heavy dose of bleach. It looks new now and I’d like to try to preserve that look. Which TWP product would be a best choice. I have an airless sprayer I’m not fond of (lots of blow back and short hose trying to apply to 2nd floor area). I’d prefer to use a pump sprayer with brush back up if that’s recommended. My wife wants clear or cedar tint. Thank you for your help
Use the TWP 1500 Series. It has to be tinted for UV protection, Clear will gray in months. The lightest tint is Honeytone 1515 color, not Cedartone.
I’m using clear on old barnwood posts. How can I make it shine after?
You cannot apply a top coat over the TWP.
I put Pro Series 100 in Pecan on my new deck in late 2020 and it needs restained again (looked ready for another coat in 2 years but I’m just getting to it). My deck see a quite a bit of sun. I’m looking at the Semi Solid Pro Series and was wondering if I could go a little further between needing restained? If so, what color would you recommend that get as close as possible to Pecan color of the Pro Series 100?
The semi-solid colors will offer better UV protection. Make sure to use this kit if switching:
https://www.twpstain.com/restore-a-deck-stripper-brightener-kit-detail
There is not a matching color to Pecan. You can test samples:
https://www.twpstain.com/stain-samples
How well will the pro series 100 clear work on a gazebo under roof of rough pine shiplap
Clear has no UV protection from graying. Must be a tinted color. Try Honeytone for the lightest tint.
Thanks!
does the brightener damage plants and lawns that are below the deck?
Best to always take precautions by covering delicate plants and bushes. It will not harm the grass.
which TWP product will work best for a redwood deck with knots. Deck is 4 years old and has been sanded to remove previous stain.
Use the Gemini Kit for final prep. Stain with the TWP 1500 series.
please clarify – if I have sanded the deck why is it recommended to still use the Gemini Kit? Thanks!
Sanding closes the wood pores. Need to open up the wood grain with the kit so the stain can soak in better.
What does power washing do, open or close the wood grain? My guess is open..
Open. Use the Gemini Kit while pressure washing.
I built a house a year ago and clear coated all the rough cedar posts/trim before they were installed. Now my wife wants to stain it with an actual color because it has faded. Can you stain with a TWP 100 over the clear, and should you powerwash it first? Also, what would be the staining schedule that you would have to stay on before stain starts wearing off? We are located in Central MO, thank you.
No, you have to remove the first coating first. Strip and or sand to remove it. Recoat every 2-3 years.
Is the 100 series in dark oak and summer transparent?
Semi-transparet, yes.
How long do you have to wait after pressure washing before applying first coat?
48 hours to dry after prep.
We have a carved wooden bear that sits out in the sun, fog and rain. Want to preserve it and are looking at twp 100. Any suggestions or recommendations?
Where do you live and has it been stained prior?

We have a cedar deck with a lower level below with windows sliding door, steel siding and a paver patio.
If I use the stripper and brightner do I need to cover the siding door and window and patio?
Also my deck posts and rails are very dark (have been using penofin). Can I sand the posts and rails and then use stripper on the deck . then follow up with the brightner to prep both prior to staining? Thinking of using TWP products.
I have pressure washed the deck. 2 Photos attached. Would like advice on products to use and proper steps to take.
thanks
Jim F
Strip and brighten all wood. Do not sand. Cover or protect any aluminum. Prewet and rinse well any vinyl or glass.
Will the stain discolor the pavers if it drips through?
Yes, you have to cover the pavers.
We bought a home 6 years ago with a cedar deck in great shape. Five years ago we put down TWP 100 Cedartone, pressure washed first, let it dry then applied two coats. We did the same two years ago and the deck is ready for another application. The vertical parts of deck seem to look pretty good but the horizontal planks are taking a beating. Should I be using the TWP 1500 with UVA protection? Should I be doing something to prep besides pressure washing? I use a 2700 PSI electric pressure washer and it seems to do the trick. A few pictures are included. One is post pressure washing from a few years ago and two current pics are included. One shows under the grill mat and how it looks and the other shows deck in current state. I look forward to your thoughts.
Prep all with this kit and pressure washing: https://www.twpstain.com/restore-a-deck-stripper-brightener-kit-detail

I bought 100 pro series clear not realizing it does not have U.V. protection. Is there a way to add U.V. protective stain. It’s a 5 gallon can and 200 dollars out the window if I can’t. It’s a large cedar deck I’m trying to preserve.
No, you cannot add tint to it but you can mix another color of the TWP 100 Series into it.
We have been using 5 gallon buckets of Redwood TWP 1502. I need to get a little more to finish the job. Is the one gallon Redwood 102 the same.
Also I have been adding a cup of mineral spirits to one gallon of stain to decrease the darkness of the stain. Is this a good idea.
102 is not the same as the 1502. Best to get a gallon of the 1502:
https://www.twpstain.com/twp1500-1gallon-detail
We do not suggest thinning.
is there a local dealer in Fremont, Nebraska, 68025. that carries the stain and sealer
We sell online only as a TWP dealer.
I meant to ask . can a person put a sealer over the TWP stain
No. It will peel if you do this.
can a person put a sealer over the top stain
We are replacing deck floor with green treated deck lumber. Contractor said to lay out planks for 3 weeks and apply 1 coat, let dry a few days and apply 2 nd coat. After 2nd coat they will lay and build the deck floor. Contractor says after floor is down apply a 3rd coat. Is this a correct method? TY
No, he is wrong. Install, weather for 4+ months, prep, and then stain.

What is the best stain/sealer for a tongue in groove pine sealer that is close to clear?
Honeytone color is the lighted tinted color. Look at the 1500 Series.
Is there a distributor near 15237 near Pittsburgh?
We sell online only as a TWP dealer. You will need the 1500 series for PA.
