TWP 1500 would work and is compliant for Northern Virginia.

Which stain and treatment would you recommend? I have a cabin in the woods in Northern Virginia. The deck is pressure treated and submitted to mostly shade all day. Because of the shade (and lack of treatment) it continues to readily grow mold and algae. In addition, the deck is completely covered by tulip poplars that shed sticky nectar which molds and stains black almost as instantly as it rains. I will be sanding it before treating.

All new wood needs to be cleaned and prepped. I would wait until Fall than clean and brighten with the Gemini Restore-A-Deck Kit. I would then use TWP 1500 Series in a light color such as Honeytone or Natural

We just put down a new cedar deck and would like to bring out the colors of the wood while protecting it. We live in upstate new York and would like to know what is the best stain to get and how long do you wait before applying anything to it? Also should we use something to clean and prep it before staining and should it be sanded?

I have replaced my 30 year old cedar decking with EverGrain Weathered Wood composite. Which stain would you recommend for the remaining cedar benches, posts and trim boards, which are still in good condition?

Possibly. It really depends on the wood and how weathered and dry the wood is. If very gray and dirty then you need to remove more of the wood cells. This may result in raising of the grain a little.

Hi again. Just wondering if the Restore a Deck Kit will raise the wood grain. Thanks for your help!

I would use a stain stripper on the rough cut wood followed by a wood brightener.

After sanding you should use a wood cleaner and a wood brightener to prep. The Gemini Restore A Deck Kit would be ideal. I would look at the Honeytone or Natural color. Typically needs to be redone every 2-3 years.

I still need some help. The deck should be fine, easy to clean and re-stain. The question I have, is the board and batten PINE siding is ROUGH CUT AND VERY PORES. This would be nearly impossible to get rid of old product. I can pressure wash and let dry. Sanding and stripping would take weeks and change the appearance (rustic) of the house. Sorry to be a bother, please advise your thoughts are very appreciated.

    Thank You Bill

We have a 2 year old cedar deck that is on a southern exposure. We\'ve got Cabot 3000 on it, which didn\'t last a year. I have completely sanded it and would like to use twp 1500 on it. Which color would give me the most natural finish, and do I have to prep the deck in any other way? Also, how long would should I expect the finish to last? We live in northern Wisconsin.

Wait a month or two before staining. Do not sand but use a wood cleaner and a wood brightener to prep. Do not use a wood filler!

As long as you clean and brighten the wood to prep you should be okay. If you have a lot of the old stain left then you should strip it off as well. Either the 100 or the 1500 would work well.

We just installed a pressure treated deck in NJ. Most of the deck is in full sun for 70% of the day. How long should I wait before staining? Do I need to sand before staining? Should I fill in small cracks in wood and spaced where wood joins before staining?

Thanks for your help. Also. 100 or 1500 for best performance?

hello: I built my pine board & batten home w/ceder deck 6 yrs ago. The deck is covered. The house & deck need to be refinished. The deck is very washed out, the house is better but still needs to be redone. I used a Valspar product originally but I don\'t know if it was a oil or water based product. The customer service person @ farm & fleet said since it is that old I could use either. Is this true, please advise the best product. The TWP brand 100 or 1500? or is the a better brand.

Lattice is pretty absorbent so I would let dry fro a week or two then lightly clean. Light brown would probably be the Cedartone in the 1500 Series. It is a browny cedar color.

New cedar lattice privacy screen in San Antonio TX, morning sun, part shade in afternoon - how long do I wait to stain? Does the cedar have to be cleaned? Would prefer a light brown color to compliment Trex Woodland Brown deck- your suggestions please? thanks.

You should let the wood dry for at least a month or two then clean and brighten with the Gemini Restore A Deck Kit. Only one coat is needed for new wood. I would look at the TWP 1515 Honeytone for the lightest color.
