We will reply to your comment shortlyHi,
We used TWP 1500 last year on our mahogany deck. It's a covered deck, but the steps are in full sun all day. It faded quickly and absorbed some ring stains from our chairs. We're not sure if you recommend a particular color. What are we missing?-
We will reply to your comment shortlyHello,
Your wood type (Mahogany) is an exotic hardwood and these types of wood require an annual reapplication when in full sun. As for the rings, that is most likely rust from your chairs.
Most people use the Rustic color for mahogany in the 1500 Series.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI want to refinish the old deck of my screen porch. I have removed most of the old paint/stain, but there are some places where the paint/stain has sunk deeply into the wood. Note that the wood is pressure treated. What do I use to cover it so that it will cover up the old surface but NOT peel or crack, like the old paint did?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyHello, the TWP products are penetrating semi-transparent stains. They cannot be applied over a deck paint or solid stain. The current coating will need to be fully removed first. Once removed, you can use the TWP.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI would
like
actaul samples
of stains. Redwood and rustic. I am unsure which is better for our project. Anyway to mail a sample
of those two? I have four
decks to refinish this year and a two story house in T111 to
do next year. Want the correct stain color. Thanks

We will reply to your comment shortlyI am in the process of restoring a cedar outdoor play structure. In most of the horizontal surfaces the previous stain, I assume water-based, is flaky and the wood is heavily greyed and splintered. What is the best product to use for the climate (Alberta, Canada) and how do I prepare the wood? Sanding, pressure washing etc.? Will I need to apply a sealer after staining and are there any concerns with children (odor, stains, etc.).
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyOnly the TWP 200 Series is allowed in Canada. All previous stain must be removed first by sanding and stripping. Brighten the wood after. You cannot apply a sealer over the TWP stain nor is there a need. Once fully dry and cured, there are no concerns.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyIf I sand down to the bare wood, do I need to brighten after? How do I prepare for the staining after sanding, washing down with a hose or is a damp cloth enough to clean off the dust particles?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyLightly pressure rinse and brighten the wood.

We will reply to your comment shortlyOur deck (photo attached) was built a year ago, in Omaha, NE. No stain required on the decking itself, but we now want to stain the support posts, beam and facia to approximately match the metal railing color (darker grey/brown), which it seems may require some level of pigmentation. Which type (TWP 100 or 1500) and which color might be the best fit? Thanks in advance!
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe TWP 100 series. Dark Oak.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have a 288sq deck. i just used t w p for the first and not very happy. I have whitish spots coming through the redwood stain. past years i have used Flood wood protection and no problem. what could my problem be?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyTWP does not cause white spots. Must be something else that is the issue. Please post a picture.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI just ordered the TWP 100 Combo RAD and brightener. I live in Huntsville, AL and want to make sure I ordered the correct one. I used the same kind of TWP stain 3 years ago. The deck is losing its color (Redwood) where the elements hit it. Please let me know if I chose correctly, TY

We will reply to your comment shortlyYou did order correctly.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI used TWP 1500 Natural on my new deck in Sept. 2017. Following the directions, I put a second coat on 9 months later (this past weekend). I have some areas that are extremely glossy and others that are not. Any suggestions of how to repair? The instructions did not call for any pre-treating. I did not put on a heavy coat, as evidenced by the fact that the first time I used the entire gal. whereas this time, I have about a third left.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyHi Lee, you always have to prep before reapplying and it does state this on the can and our websites. See this for tips now: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/twp-stain-is-spotty-or-shiny/

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have a huge redwood deck (~1800 sq ft), which is subject to New Mexico’s bright sun and snow. Elevation is 8800 ft. It was stained about 8 years ago with Messmers Natural Redwood. I am going clean & brighten first. What TWP stain color should I use? I liked the Messmer color. Would just a natural stain look good?

We will reply to your comment shortlySee our photo albums for some guidance on what color works for you:

We will reply to your comment shortlyAdditional info..... The dock I asked about is built from pressure treated pine.
-
We will reply to your comment shortly1) I have a 750 sq. ft. dock that is 8 years old and never been stained. have just replaced a few boards. I know that the "new" boards will not stain the same as the old ones, but is it ok to go ahead and stain them or di I need to skip them until they weather awhile?
2) Same dock - is it safe/legal/recommended to use your wood prep products over water? Any danger to fish, etc?
Thanks!-
We will reply to your comment shortly1. You should be fine if just a few boards but those new boards will need to be touched up with another coat next year.
2. Nothing illegal about it and the prep products are Eco-Safe.

We will reply to your comment shortlyWe have a cedar fence 2yrs old. Should we power wash it before staining?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes, you have to prep. Use this kit while pressure washing: https://www.twpstain.com/gemini-s-restore-a-deck-cleaner-and-brightener-kit

We will reply to your comment shortlyWe are staining our pool deck for the 1st time. It’s green treated lumber. The deck has been up for 8 months. We live in Illinois 60 miles south of Chicago. Should we use the 1500 series or the 100 series. I’m thinking oil based semi-transparent.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyFor IL, you will need the TWP 1500 Series. It is oil-based and semi-transparent.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyWhat stain is best for Washington State? The deck gets a lot of rain during 9 months of the year and direct sun for 3 months straight. Thanks in advance!
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyUse the TWP 100 Series. Make sure to prep first.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyWould TWP 1500 work on a deck made from South American hardwood. Its natural color is kind of a rich redwood type color. I have cleaned it, pressure washed and sanded it. Also does this have to b e applied with a sprayer or can i use a roller to rub it in.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyUse a stain pad to apply. Most use the TWP 1516 for Exotic Hardwoods. Just one light coat.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe previous owner stained our deck with TWP shake and shingle in 207 Butternut Brown. Which product do you recommend (Kansas resident) and what color would be best. Still have plenty of color on posts and pickets below the deck. Don't want to have to strip it all off beyond pressure washing.
would hope for something just dark enough to blend with old stain.
Thanks,-
We will reply to your comment shortlyUse the same color and series. Prep with the Gemini Restore Kit.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI am planning to use Dock Revive this summer. I currently use TWP 100 dark oak stain and would like a color match. What is the best gloss acrylic paint to use?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyKen, does not matter on the brand of Gloss acrylic latex paint for the Deck Revive. Any will do.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI have a Epe deck in Oregon I want to seal it but do not want a color do you have 100 in natural
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe TWP comes in clear. Clear will not give you UV protection though from naturally turning gray.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI am staining new cedar for a dock deck in fresh water. Which of your products with use be best.
Ken in Montana-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe 100 Series but see this about new wood: https://www.twpstainhelp.com/prepping-new-wood-for-twp-stains/

We will reply to your comment shortlyGood morning. We are refinishing a cedar deck and choosing between the 100 and 1500 series. The deck gets full sun and we live in non-coastal North Carolina. Can you please tell me which would be best and why. Thank you.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyIn NC you can use either Series. They both will work equally as well in your state.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThank you for your reply. In the future could we apply the 1500 over the 100 if the low VOC becomes the standard?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyAs long as you prep correctly, yes.
