TWP 200 Series is now available to be shipped to Canada!

The TWP 200 Series was designed for shakes and shingles but can be used for all exterior wood surfaces such as fencing, log homes, cedar framed homes, etc.

TWP 200 Series is a semi-transparent oil based penetrating finish designed to extend the life of exterior wood such as cedar shake siding, and shingles. Containing a paraffin oil, TWP 200 series penetrates wood extremely well. The Paraffin oil is a "non-drying" oil that enhances the wood cells structural stability. This greatly improves the woods life and appearance.

TWP 200 Series primary function is to enhance the structural integrity and appearance of aged roofing. The finish composition will minimize grain cracking, cupping, surface erosion, water absorption and surface attack from mildew and algae.  Although the system is highly penetrative, the residual surface film is highly resistant to destructive organisms.  The penetrative portion of the product absorbs into aged and porous wood, adding bulk to aged and brittle wood fiber.  This restores lubricity and flexibility to brittle shingles.  At 94%+ solids, these products comply with all current federal and state VOC (volatile organic compounds) regulations.

TWP 200 SERIES will not crack, peel or blister making maintenance an easy task to perform for extended wood protection.

I have outdoor benches that are made of cedar wood and pressure treated wood. Is the 201 Cedartone more like a paint, as it says high solid on the label, or, is it a semi-transparent oil based stain that would allow for seeing the wood grain. Would you recommend the 200 series for benches.

The 200 Series is a semi-transparent stain, not a solid stain that covers the grain.

My dog loves to lick rainwater off our deck. After TWP 200 has dried, is there any toxicity issue?

Once fully cured and dried there are not any issues but make sure it is fully cured and dried.

So is it ok to use TWP 207 on a deck if it says it's for vertical surfaces?

      TWP Stains · 09/11/2020
Yes but it may take a few days or longer to properly cure.

Hi TWP, I live in Ontario Canada. And deckstainhelp.com recommend TWP 200 to me.
    My question is
1.What is the specific difference between TWP 100 and TWP 200?
Is TWP 200 much better at UV resist than TWP 100?
    2. Is TWP 200 oil base or water base?
    3. Is TWP 200 series all are semi-transparent?

      1. VOC compliance. They perform the same.
      2. Oil-based.
      3. Yes.

Our house was stained with #205 California Cedar about 8-10 years ago. Besides pressure washing the areas with water, is there any other prep work necessary before applying the new stain?

We used TWP 206 for the wood on our front porch, which was mostly cedar. We just bought a mahogany door that is raw and in need of staining and we are hoping to use the same TWP 206 stain on this new door. Any issue with using 206 on mahogany? If so, are there any other options for matching to TWP 206? Thanks!

It will not work for a hardwood like Mahogany. You cannot match the color and in general, the TWP stains are not designed for doors.

We ordered TWP200 in Slate Gray 210 last year. The colour did not come out gray and we need more stain for an air-conditioner screen and raised garden bed. Not sure what colour to order - go with Slate Gray again and hope it wasn’t a mix-up?

Looks like you did not mix it correctly? The pigment does settle and has to be mixed into the stain.

I’m pretty sure it was well mixed. It was applied last Spring and has faded since then, especially on the deck. It was quite orange last summer. Does this look like it could be Slate Gray on cedar?

If the wood was brand new then possibly. Was the actual stain gray in the can?

The deck was 3 years old before we stained it. We used the Gemini Restor-A-Deck kit on it before staining. The stain was definitely not gray in the can. I suspect I was sent the wrong colour and the can was mislabelled. Is it possible to get samples of the other colours in order to match it? Is it okay to redo the deck with a similar colour if I can’t match it (i.e. can’t figure out what colour I received).

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Honeytone one of the colors available in the twp200 befor?
    Can it be?

We have a 9 year old cedar deck that has always had Superdeck transparent stain on it. First few years were fine but since Sherwin Williams purchased them, it now turns black on us within 8-10 months (Saskatchewan, Canada). So this year we used their cleaner and brightened to get rid of the old stain and mildew, and now we are sanding it with 60-80 grit. With your supply being shut down due to covid, it will likely be a while before it get stained. With your 200 series (Canada), I do have a few questions:

    1. Even after using their cleaner and brightened, plus sanding, should we use your stripper/brightened before applying TWP 200? I am guessing the brightened for sure due to sun fade between sanding and eventual staining, but how about the stripper?
    2. Even after sanding and stripping/cleaning, there is no guarantee that all the superdeck that soaked in has been removed completely. Any idea how. TWP 200 will react if there are traces of superdeck left that soaked into the wood?
    3. There is not a lot of instructions for TWP 200 when applying on a deck, as the product info sheet is mainly for shingles or shakes. Would this be a single coat or a wet on wet 2 coat system? Any tricks for deck applications?
    4. For maintenance, What is a good cleaning product to use to keep it clean or washed down a couple times a year?
    5. When it comes time to retreat, just use cleaner and brightened and the re-stain? Any stripping or sanding required?

I appreciate your assistance in this. Plan on ordering as soon as ordering is back up and available.

The deck is 14 ft x 20 ft with 42 inch high railings (about 70 feet) of cedar including spindles, and 10 steps with railings. Would a 5 gal pail be enough?

I attached a couple photos of the deck when it was new and first stained.

      1. Yes, strip and brighten for prep
      2. The stripper will remove it while pressure washing.
      3. Just one coat is enough.
      4. Clean and recoat as needed. Do not need to strip.

      5-gallon should be enough.

We stained our deck with TWP 200 two years ago and it looks great. There are a few spots in the high traffic areas that could use a bit of retouching. Can we simply apply additional stain over those areas, or do they need to be prepped first?

I live in Canada so the obvious choice would be TWP 200. How long does it take to ship to Hamilton, Ontario and if I was to select TWP200 Clear I see you state it will still gray naturally. Does it still provide some UV protection? What other color would you recommend for a very light color to still expose a lot of the natural wood grain. I will be staining a pressure treated existing deck. Thanks

It must be tinted for UV protection. All the colors will show the wood grain. Cedar Gold is lighter and tinted.

The technical specs say only one coat is needed, but the deck stain calculator says it assumes 2 coats, wet on wet. Is 2 coats the recommended amount for TWP 200 on cedar roof shakes that are older?

For older wood roof shakes, yes do two light coats applied wet on wet.

I purchased a large outdoor wood carving. It was recommended by the artist that I use CWP. It is natural wood and portions are stained black. I am not sure of the type of wood. Which TWP product would you recommend. I am thinking the clear 100. Should I use another product because of the wood preservative?

Clear will not give UV protection. Look at Honeytone.

hi ,deck is 10 years old never treated , want to semi oil stain ,and how do i stain my custom rails, washed deck with dish soap and power washer , i got a feeling thats improper prep? what do i do now, Do i need prep products? and looking for highest grade of stain able to sent to me in niagara falls Canada. Are voc laws changed , Can i still get 1500 series , if not is 200 series comparable ? 1500 and 200 series seem the same in voc,s but 1500 has less solids, whats the solid difference beteen 200 series and canadas highest semi oil stains, if the 200 series is A BETTER, i need to know the difference in, deck longevity, and duriblity, [ between the USA,s highest quality shipped to Canada ]] ,and Canada,s highest quality available in Canada, so i may make an educated guess, On what product to purchase, Thank you, Your site has no info on prep steps, and stain steps, on the 200 series, Could not find it.

Use the Gemini Kit for prep. Only the TWP 200 Series is allowed in Canada. The 1500 is not allowed and never has been. The 200 works very well.
