TWP 1511 California Redwood is a great color. This is a lighter red color that is not as dark or rich as the 1502 Redwood.
TWP 1500Â Series is available in 9 semi-transparent color choices that penetrate into the wood while enhancing the natural wood grain. The 1511 Series is higher in solids content which may result in “richer” colors than the 100 Series. In general, the 1500 Series color will not match the colors in the 100.
Final TWP 1511 California Redwood color will vary based on:
- Type of Wood
- Age of Wood
- Prepping of Wood
- Application method

I have a very large redwood deck that is 32 years old. About 20 years ago we sanded the entire deck and sealed with CA Redwood. Loved it! But, it’s time again. At the time I spoke to a rep that told me I needed to do something along the lines of wetting the deck a couple of times and then letting it dry before sealing it?? Something to do with the fibers of the deck and soaking in the sealer. Can someone refresh my memory what I should do again?
No, that is not how to prep. Use this kit and pressure washing for prep.

Is there any difference in the UV protection of the Natural 1530, California Redwood 1511 and Honeytone 1515.
I building a tongue and groove redwood fence and I would like the to see the red wood but still have as much protection as possible.
Thanks
Same UV protection.
Super happy with TWP and the gorgeous color of California Redwood.
I am building a wood bench for my patio. I am painting the frame but want to stain the slats using cedar wood. Would like a stain color that will bring out the reds in the cedar. I have stained my cedar fence with 1530 Natural. So I am debating between Natural, California Redwood or Rustic. Which one will bring out the red but not as strong as Redwood? Is TWP the right product to use for a bench or should I go with a Minwax stain and use polyutherane?

We have been using the Behr Transparent Penetrating oil Wood Finish Redwood. It is no longer available. What oil penetrating stain may be the best match TWP 1502, 1511 or 1516
We are not familiar with their colors so not sure which would be closest. You will need to remove the Behr first prior to applying the TWP.
1. Do you have a matching color in the 100 series for the California Redwood (1511)?
2. If I apply a 100 series stain on my redwood deck (such as Rustic 116), in the future can I apply the same stain in the 1500 series (Rustic 1516)? I am concerned that in a year or two that my state would prohibit sale of the 100 series stain. If that happens, can I switch over to the 1500 series for future applications? (without having to completely remove the 100 series stain from the deck). Basically are 100 and 1500 series compatible (and interchangeable)?
1. We do not.
2. You can always switch, just make sure to prep first.
@Mark Stains – If I switch, does prepping involve stripping the 100 series stain? Or can I apply the 1500 series stain over the 100 series stain? (after cleaning). Thanks again.
You would prep with the Gemini Restore Kit and pressure washing.
My deck is 2 years old.
I’ve cleaned/pressure-washed the oxidation away and it looks brand new. The pressure wash caused a small amount of light fraying, but nothing drastic.
If I wanted to even everything out could I sand with 40-60 grit, or would you recommend applying TWP 1500 To the deck as is?
If it’s okay to sand, can I apply TWP 1500 directly after sanding?
You are probably okay with just staining as is.
Trying to match indoor Tigerwood floor color on outdoor deck of PT wood.
Will sand and apply Gemini cleaner and Brightener.
I have tried 50/50 mix Cedartone 1500 and California Redwood 1500.
Would mix of California Redwood and Rustic 1500 be closer?
Sorry but we have no way or knowing what you are trying to match and what mix would work. Only thing you can do is test by trial and error.
I installed Redwood Fence, Deck and Pergola couple of years back. There has been lots of rains this year in Northern California this year and I am ready to get it stained. Is 1511 the right product or will 1502 be better. I want to maintain more natural look. And how long these products are good for.
Either color will work. We offer samples for testing.
