Have a new deck that is ready to be finished. Live in SE Michigan, deck on west side of home, installed in Oct2012, applied cleaner and scrubbed w/ brush two weeks ago to prep for finishing. Want to leave wood grain showing through and keep natural color as much as possible, what is best product to consider?

wood is 1 month old cedartone decking sold by Menards. This is treated wood with an added color to simulate cedar. Have any advise on using TWP 1500 on this material?

rsppjwg, you do not need to seal after the stain. Hard to say on the pail as we would need a total sq. footage including the floors, railings, and steps.

5yrs, white cedar, good, Cabot natural deck 2 tiered. Does sealing after staining help longevity? If so what sealer? Will 5 gallon be enough to cover 16by 16 and 16 by 12, 5 steps and railing?

Dan J, you need to apply it right away while the wood is still wet. A week or so is okay to wait.

Just finished stripping entire cedar deck with RAD.Do I need to apply the brightener immediatly? I will also be staining with TWP 1500. How long can I let the deck sit unstained? The weather doesnt look like its going to be favorable for staining for a while.

George, you would need to remove the CWF with the Restore A Deck Stain Stripper and pressure washing. Neutralize with the Restore a Deck Brightener when done. Stain with the 1500 Series.

    Age of wood? 1 month
Type of wood? Kiln Dried Pine (Yellawood)
    Condition of the wood? New
Has it been stained previously and if so with what brand of stain? No
Small description of the area to be treated.
10X20 open deck, full sun in upstate South Carolina.

I am planning on sealing with TWP 1500 in natural. I know you are supposed to wait at least 4 months on Pressure Treated wood, but because it's Kiln Dried my contractor said to stain/seal right away (or at least within a month). I was planning on pressure washing, wait 2 days, and then apply TWP 1500. What are your thoughts?

Joyce, Either would be fine but for this I would suggest the 1500 Series.

My redwood deck is 20 years old. It was stained 3 years ago with Olympic semi-transparent. After powerwashing, most of the old stain is gone. I plan to strip what is left and treat with deck brightener. I live in Nebraska. Would TWP 100 or TWP 1500 offer the best protection for my deck?

We do not suggest it as it could change the formula.

In the past I have added oils with stain to help it last longer and penetrate cedar decking. I know you cannot thin the TWP1500 but can you add Danish Oil?

Paul, if you want to use the TWP then you will need to strip off the CWF and brighten the wood first.

Brian, best to strip and brighten the wood for the prep. The TWP will work better if the wood is free from old coatings.

Should I use a deck cleaner or stain stripper on my 8 yr old cedar deck in good condition that was previously stained using PWC 1000 deck stain? We recently moved into this house, believe that it was stained approx 5 yrs ago (wood on deck is very faded, the spindles are only mildly faded). We live in Southeastern Wisconsin. Deck is in full sun throughout the day.
