Merkam, you have roughly 1500 sq. feet to do. You would need about 15 gallons to do 2 coats. If the wood is rough, then you may need a little more as rough sawn wood is more porous then smooth wood.
new fence square footage is 360 sq ft per side (both sides will be stained)
existing fence square footage is 780 sq ft per side (only one side will be stained)
can you help calculate the gallons of stain? I read on these posts that the first coat coverage would be 150 - 200 sq.ft. per gallon and 2nd coat would be 300 sq. ft. per gallon, is that right?
-Yes -Oil Based -You must use the TWP 1500 for Ohio -Prep with the Gemini Restore Kit -2 years is normal -1 coat on new wood, next time you can do two coats. Dries in 4-12 hours
LOTS OF QUESTIONS!!! Is the TWP 100 Series a semi-transparent, penetrating stain? Is it water based? We are staining a new deck, rails, privacy fence, etc. The wood is pressure-treated& has been down since the fall. We live in the Cleveland area, so it went through the winter un-treated. Do we want to use the 100 Series for that? Or the 1500 series? Do we need to do any pressure washing or treatment cleaning first? How many years can we expect to get out of this product before having to re-do? The area is partial sun-part shade. Our summers can be in the 90's. One coat or two? What would the drying time be? Thank you in advance!
I like your review of products available. My deck was built summer 2012. The railing and outside frame is built with cedar and finished with several coats of CWF (clear) oil penetrating wood finish. It has kind of an orange color. The floor is finished with pressure treated lumber and has a cedar tone but lighter than the finished cedar. When I choose a color to stain I wuld like it to match. Will it darken over time? Also, your we b-site mentions using 2 coats wet-on-wet. How do you accomplish this. Actually walk on the wet area? How soon after? Is a 2nd coat necessary? Also, the best way to apply. After reading some web-sites i see where brushing works the best. thank you for your response.
IS RUSTIC 1516, DARK 1503 OR BLACK OAK 1504 BEST FOR A 10 YEAR OLD DECK NOW COVERED IN SOME AREAS BY A DARK CHESTNUT " ONE TIME " WOOD PROTECTION STAIN? I DESIRE THE DARKER COLOR, HOWEVER, AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE COLOR OF THE NEW TWP 1500 DARK STAIN OVER IT ONCE CLEANED?? THANKS, WGJ
I have a new pressure treated pine deck and need your recommendation on the recommended product. I am looking at the redwood 1502 color - How will it look with pressure treated pine. How long is the estimate time it will last on a covered boathouse(sides exposed). deck wood is smooth.
any of the TWP colors will enhance. I would look at Redwood, California Redwood, Natural, etc. Spindles can be applied with a sprayer then back brushed or done with a brush.
I have a 20 year old redwood deck that I just completed cleaning and now want to stain. The redwood color has faded. I want to bring the original redwood color back. What can you recommend? I have a large deck, approx. 1000sf. Also, what is best way to apply stain to 1x1 slats in railing?
Just finished cedar deck in WA state, considering staining with TWP 1500. Would you suggest staining now or waiting until next spring? Concerned about graying if we wait.
