Kdee, when you let the wood gray for a year you are basically oxidizing the top layer of wood cells. The longer you let the wood sit, the greater the amount of wood cells will be removed during the cleaning. This is what causes the "furring". Best to smooth down with a buffing machine and buffing pads. These come in different grits like paper. Very easy to do. A 400 sq. foot floor will can be done in 20 minutes or less. No need to wash down again. 2 light coats wet on wet would be best.

I just completed the two step process and I have area with fibers. Do I have to sand down the fibers? If so, do I need to wash the deck again with the brightener or just use water? If I wash it down again, do I need to wait the two days before starting the staining? The stain will be applied to a new deck (12 months old), how many coats do I need?

Dan, not sure. Never seen a "chalky residue" It could be some of the stripper or some old stain. Rinse well and brighten.

    Hello,

I used the stripper and it appears to have left a white chalky looking substance on the cedar wood. Is this normal? Will the brighter take care of this? Or is this left over stripper that hasn't been removed. I used a power washer so nothing should of been left behind. Please advise.

    Thanks

    Dan

Hello. I have a log home that is in need of a clean and reseal. Can i use this product or is there another you recommend? Plus im in California and im not sure if you will ship it because it may not be VOC compliant. I have a litle black starting in corners on the logs that i need to clean but most of it is in good shape. Last stain applied I believe was in 2005 when the home was built.

I have a cedar deck which I will be cleaning and brightening before staining. I have a pergola on the deck with a tongue and groove cedar lining (under a steel roof). Does the cedar tongue and groove lining need to be cleaned and brightened prior to using TWP 1500 stain on it. It does not get any weather or wear and tear from traffic.

Clean all the wood then apply a light coat to the entire floor.

    Hello,
I applied the 100 series last Summer to my deck. It still looks great...except for areas where traffic (dogs and people) have worn away the finish. I would like to apply a maintenance coat (after cleaning/brightening).

How do I properly apply the maintenance coat, without applying too much causing premature failure of the stain? Some deck boards have areas that are worn from traffic and also areas that still look good from last year...
    Thank you in advance!

Mary, You might need to sand if the grain has been raised from the cleaning.

I have a cedar deck that we sunnyside deck wash on it and the mill glaze was not completely remover the deck was build last Aug. And I thought this would be an easy job, but it has turn into BIG JOB. After calling sunnyside 800 3 they recommended TSP cleaner. You have a product that removes the mill glaze. After using your product do I have to sand. I think I have sand the now to prep it.

I am in the process of staining my deck with TWP 100 Cedartone. I started with the railings and I was using a power sprayer. To prevent over spray on the house I used plastic sheeting while I sprayed the outside of the railing which ended up leaving a thin layer of over spray on the deck boards. Due time I was unable to finish the deck. Can I apply stain over the thin layer of over spray and will it adhere to the stain that's already there or do I need to strip it and start over on the deck boards?
