    Hi,

I have a new deck that has not been coated and has weathered over the winter (it is about a year old). I would like to clean it before staining with your 1500 product. Do I use the 2 part gemini deck restoration system on it? How long do I let it dry before staining? Thanks so much for any info that you can share.

    Bob

Do I need to cover the painted surface of the house when using cleaner and brightener ?

No you do not unless the paint is failing by peeling or heavily oxidizing.

I have an IPE deck which I used Restore-A-Deck cleaner & brightener, & then TWP116. An unexpected thunder storm arrived as I was wrapping up but most of the stain had only been down about 3 hours. I now have water spots.

Do I need to go thru the cleaner & brightener process again? What's the best way to get rid of the water spots?

    Thanks,

    Mike

See it the spots dry out an go away first. If not then you will most likely need to strip it off and start over.

I have a deck that is about a year old and it needs to be treated. There are some cracks and rough areas, should those be sealed or sanded? How are the deck cleaners applied? Brush or should I use a pressure washer?

Finally, we have pavers under the deck, what effect will the cleaners have on those? I plan to use a drop cloth when doing the prep and staining but would like to know if cleanup is possible should there be a problem.

You apply the cleaner with a pump sprayer and pressure wash off. The cleaners will not harm pavers but you will need to tarp when staining.

We had 2 cedar decks installed in fall of 2012. we were told to wait until the following summer to stain/ seal them. we cleaned and used a stain/ sealer weather proofing product in the summer of 2013.
    (unfortunately not your products).
All horizontal surfaces are now peeling terribly.
What do we now do to correct the situation?

You need to remove the peeling stain first. This will need to be stripped and possibly sanded to remove. Once removed you should use the wood brightener.

Is RAD very effective against mill glaze? We have a five month old PT pine deck. Obviously, it hasn't started to fade yet but wondering if I need to use RAD prior to TWP 1500. Any advice is appreciated!

Yes it will remove the mill glaze.

I have a cedar deck on the roof of my building. The deck sits on the roof's "rubber membrane/liner". Will any of the chemicals of Restore-A-Deck's Cleaner/Brightener cause any damage to the roof's liner/rubber membrane?

    Thank you in advance.

No they will not harm rubber membranes.

First off, the site should win the internet for the most informative DIY site out there. Every question builds the knowledge of every visitor-"oh do that! don't do that!"...nice job.
I have a 16x14 PT pine deck, 30 years old, painted 3 layers deep but was peeling, flaking, ugly as sin but not as fun. Chose to sand instead of strip because in my experience stripping is messy/marginally effective. Went 24 grit then 50 then 80. How long to wait/suggested steps to take before applying restore-a-deck so the fibers are opened back up again?

Maybe a few weeks than use the Gemini Kit for the prep. Make sure all the paint has been removed with the sanding or it will show through the TWP. Thanks!

We have a 20x20 foot IPE deck in need of some serious TLC. It's in the shade, surrounded by trees, so it's got lots of moss. How should we clean this? What products should we get?

    Sharon Fertig:
We want to restore our deck and then apply TWP stain to make it look new. Once we do both steps in the Gemini restore a deck kit do we then apply TWP cedar or whatever color we want. I have used cedar on my house in the past but my daughters deck, she wants something a little darker and not an orange look, what color do you recommend? Sharon
