I'm replacing a lot of the wood on my deck this year, leaving only the main posts (in the ground) and the joists. All the rest will be new wood. For the new wood, I read that I should wait 4-12 months before applying the stain/sealer. For the old wood (treated pine, not greyed or very weathered) what prepping do I need to do before applying your stain, AND should I use a different stain for the old wood than I do for the new?

Why would I need to use Gemini Restore-A-Deck on a brand new deck with treated wood?[/quote]
To remove mill glaze. Please read this:

I was told to sand the deck down first, I guess to remove the treated material, and then stain. Should I still do this?

No need to sand. Just use the kit.

My original application of TWP1500 done last fall was limited, due to weather conditions, to a single coat. Rain, snow and sun have caused the color to fade considerable. I'm looking to reapply the stain and I was wondering if besides using the restore-a-deck kit, would I also want to utilize a wet-on-wet application.

Yes on the Gemini Restore kit for the prep. You can do two very light coats applied wet on wet as long as the stain absorbs into the wood.

I accidentally sent an email without finishing it. Sorry. Here's the actual email:

It seems like it's best to use the two restore-a-deck products on my deck, wait 2-3 days for it to dry, and then stain the deck. However, we haven't been getting continuous sun. If I use restore a deck and then it rains for a few days after that, is it OK to wait a few weeks – and the deck has been dry for 2-3 days – before I stain it? In other words, is it OK if the cleaning and the staining part are done a few weeks apart?

    Thank you,

    Helen

Try not to wait more then 1-2 weeks after using the kit.

Can you tell me the cost to ship one Gemini restore kit and one gallon of the TWP 100 Series stain. I haven't decided on a color yet. Do you have any stores in the Northwest area like Seattle so the shipping might be less to our area.
Our address is Montesano, WA 98563
    Thank you,
    Joy Hughes

Shipping is about $20 to WA for this. We only ship from MI. Thx!

We had a beautiful deck built 3 years ago. We let it cure etc and then had it stained. It looked like color just sat on top of wood and peeled within months. We has it sanded and done again (can still see some of old stain thru a it it looks awful. We want to start over. First off, where suggest finding a reputable person to so for us who knows your produvts? Then do we need to (1) step one of Gemini (2) do we need to use Gemini stripped or try sanding again? (3) brightened from kit (4) then the twp stain!? Before step 4 should all old stain be off or will be some old stuff there? Last time we sanded and sanded and didn't all come up. Plus, we have metal railings with wood on top. How do we strip that and any way to get stain off that dropped on the metal? Such a beautifully built deck but poorly finished! So disappointing. Help!

You should remove all of the old stain. Strip off as much as possible with the Restore A Deck Stripper. Sand if needed after. Use the RAD Brightener and rinse after 10 minutes. When the wood is dry and prepped you can then use the TWP.

Hi, will the Gemini Restore-A-Deck Kit remove stains caused by use of the wrong nails on a cedar deck rails? Our contractor apparently used screws that reacted with the oils in the cedar causing black/grey spots. We are currently in month 2 of letting the new cedar weather, and we're planning on staining in month 10. Prior to doing that, we will use this brightener/cleaner product, but wanted to find out if the contractor needs to replace all the railings or if this will take care of it. Please let me know. Thanks!

That is rust from the nails and from him using the wrong nails. The Kit may remove it temporarily but most likely they will come back when it rains.

What sort of process is involved with the cleaning/brightening kit? is this a hands and knees operation or a bit less labor intensive? We would like to order the kit but would like to know what we are getting into first, and we have concerns about the champion standard poodle show dogs in the household as well.

You need a pump sprayer and a pressure washer for best results. You can read here for instructions:
