Would a composite deck cleaner be better than the Restore-A-Deck cleaner for Trex composite decks or should they work about the same.

I have the Restore-A-Deck cleaner on-hand to use if there isn't much of a difference.

    Mike13:
A friend of mine has a moldy, dirty Trex deck that is fairly old so I don't know which Trex version it is. Probably the original one that had issues with mold, etc.

Is there any problem using the cleaner on that? I don't think it should be a problem but wanted to check with you guys anyway.

What about the brightener? Any issues? While I don't think it would be a problem either I'm not sure it would do any good. I don't know if it would "brighten" the Trex (I would try a test spot 1st) & I don't think the "neutralizer" part of would be of any benefit. Your thoughts?

Yes you can use both but if the mold is deep into the Trex, then you may need to clean it a few times to get it out all the way. The brightener will not have much affect.

    Kimberly:
I have a new deck that is one year old ( it has turned grey) and I am going to use the restore a deck kit prior to staining with the TWP 100 Stain. I would like to lightly sand the entire deck before staining. Can this be done and if so should I sand before I apply the restore a deck kit or after?

Lightly sand after using the Gemini Kit but do not use more then 60-80 grit paper. You will also need to heavily rinse with water after the sanding to remove any sand dust from the pores of the wood.

    Jeff Peek:
The YouTube video suggested that there was a special formulation of Gemini Restore a Deck for Redwood. Is this correct? If so, what is the product name and how do I order it?
    Thanks.

That is an older video and does not apply. The Gemini Restore Kit can be used on all wood types.

We have a 2+ yr old cedar deck. We are on the Oregon coast.....and get a lot of rain. We applied a stain the first year, but now the deck is dark and slimy. For the sake of safety, I'd like to simply get the slick stuff off and then will fully clean/treat/brighten with your kit k57in the spring as soon as weather allows. Would you recommend I just scrub with a soap solution and a good deck brush...then hose off? Unfortunately, today I started with a bleach based cleaner. It did remove some of the grunge, but it looks awful. Your input is appreciated.

Yes that should be fine but if you have a pressure washer use it to make it easier.

We have powder coated metal railing for our cedar deck.
Will the Cleaner or Brightener corrode the coating or do I need to wrap the railings in plastic for protection?

It should not but all coatings are made differently so it is best to test first.

    John R Hertzler:
I just cleaned my year old wolmanized wood deck with both steps of Gemini cleaner and brightener. There is a white residue on most of the wood. Used a pressure washer on step 1 and garden hose on step 2. Can I apply 1500 stain over this or must it be removed.
    Thank you

Most likely that is oxidized wood cells that were not completely removed during the cleaning process. If it does not show when wet with water then it will not show when you stain. Take note, knots do have a tendency to be lighter in color and is not related to this.

I moved into a brand new house 1 year ago. The back deck and front steps have never been stained or sealed, but now have one year of weathering. What is the best way to prep and stain them?

The Gemini Restore Kit would be best.

    BD:
    Hello,

I've built a new deck with "outdoor wood" treated Hem/fir decking. It is days old and would like to get it done before winter sets in, if possible. I am in WA state. I'd like to prep and stain it with the restore a deck kit, followed by a TWP 100 stain. Can I pick these products up in the Portland Oregon area?

Please read this about new wood:

    Chris12:
I'm replacing a lot of the wood on my deck this year, leaving only the main posts (in the ground) and the joists. All the rest will be new wood. For the new wood, I read that I should wait 4-12 months before applying the stain/sealer. For the old wood (treated pine, not greyed or very weathered) what prepping do I need to do before applying your stain, AND should I use a different stain for the old wood than I do for the new?

Same stain for both wood. Use the Gemini Restore kit for the prep.
