TWP 1500 is a Semi-transparent Oil-Based wood stain and preservative that is allowed in all 50 states.

The new TWP® 1500 formula is designed to penetrate better, dry faster and outperform the previous TWP® 500 series formula.

TWP® 1500 Series is an EPA registered wood preservative which prevents structural damage and wood decay on exterior above ground wood surfaces such as fencing, decking, wood siding, log homes, and roofing. TWP® 1500 Series resists water absorption that causes warping, cracking and splitting as well as preventing freeze damage in colder climates.

TWP® 1500 Series is a low VOC preservative with special U.V. absorbing pigments that prevent unsightly wood graying, darkening and fading. The selected mildewcides inhibit the growth of mold and mildew which assist in preventing premature discoloration.

We have used this product twice on our pressure-treated wood deck (. It applies easily and looks terrific when done. We are DIYers with limited experience with this sort of project, and had no trouble following the application directions. We had to address a lot of wood damage before applying it--severe UV damage, mold and mildew--but with the right prep, we couldn't be happier with the outcome. The second time we used it, we did over-apply a bit and had a lot of shiny excess stain after a few hours of drying. We read the tips here on the website and the next day we wiped off the excess using a light misting of mineral spirits and shop rags. Easy fix and it looks great. Never any peeling, which is just what we wanted, and it made our heavily damaged wood look better than we thought possible. I love finding a product that works as well as advertised.

    I just applied the 1520 to our one year old deck. We noticed some runs(day after applying). We tried to brush it out with no success.
    What can we do to fix?
    These areas are on the horizontal railings.

    What is a reasonable expectation for the life of a two-coat application of TWP? I have a 6 year old deck w/ unknown semi-transparent stain and will need to be stripped. Just trying to get a handle on how long before I’ll need to use Gemini Restore (think that’s correct) and restain. Thanks for your feedback!

    TWP 1500 Dark Oak

    Deck A:
    Applied one coat 2 years ago, heavy traffic, faded and has wear.

    1A) use RAD or the stripper
    2A) apply RAD/Stripper with scrub brush & power washer?
    3A) how many coats needed after RAD/stripper
    4A) planing to re-stain every 3 years, will it always need RAD each time

    Deck B:
    Applied two coats last year, wet on dry resulted in shiny finish, also has white streaks assuming it’s sap leaching..

    1B) will white streaks wipe off with mineral spirits? Will mineral spirits tarnish surrounding stain?
    2B) how do I apply wet on wet? Do I apply second coat before it dries (and can I walk on) or mist with hose next day and stain?
    3B) to get ride of shine, use RAD then 1 or 2 coats of stain?
    4B) can bug juice Ben applied after fact or must it be mixed with stain

      Deck A
      -Clean and brighten for prep with the Gemini Kit and pressure washing. Apply two coats of stain. You always have to prep when recoating.

      Deck B
      -No, you cannot remove sap with mineral spirits. Nothing really works well for this.

      You cannot apply TWP to a damper or water wet deck.
      -Use the RAD Stripper to remove the over applied shiny TWP. Brightener after then dry for 48 hours. Then two coats wet on wet after.
      -Bug juice has to be mixed into the stain.

    I will be applying TWP 1500 to my new deck. Do I need to look for a window of some dry days, to allow it to dry properly? I know it says dries in 12-18 hours but am concerned what rain would do if hitting it a day or two after application.

    Thanks for your reply. I am now trying to choose a color and would like to know if the color lightens or darkens after its applied with age. I have applied a sample of 1516 and 1511 on a piece of wood and they don't look a lot different like they do on your samples.

    Thanks for your earlier reply, where you said to follow your instructions for new wood. It says new rough sawn redwood fence boards have a mill glaze, are very absorbent and can be stained right away, is that ok if they have a high moisture content?

    I installed a new redwood rough sawn fence about 5 weeks ago, the wood came from the lumber yard with the usual wet moisture content, but appears to have dried out good now. The rough sawn wood looks like it will be very absorbent,
    Questions: I) will one coat of the 1500 series be enough?
    2) should I do wet on wet?
    3) what nap roller should I use? ( I don't want to spray)
    4) about how long should it last before I need to re coat?.

    Why more expensive in the 5 gallon?
    Also if I have a fence(4 rail ranch style 1800 linear feet, how do I calculate square footage to get number of gallons needed?

    The deck of a porch on a shed I had built was old wood, of several varieties, that had been plained. I used TWP #1515 Honeytone (ordered from this site) on the surface, two coats, applied wet, and it has appeared to work well. This was 3-5 months ago. I chose the Honeytone but now wish I'd chosen a darker color. Can I now apply another coat of 1500 series with a different, darker color stain, over this original coat? What should I do to prepare the surface? Unfortunately, another project I did on the porch resulted in some mist from a can of spray paint also falling on the surface. Do I have to address this spray paint contamination in a special way? If I were to choose to ignore how it might affect the appearance after application of additional coats could I proceed as if it wasn't there? Or will the spray paint affect the efficacy of the subsequent applications in the areas where it appears? Would very much appreciate some answers. Thanks!
