Greetings - I am renovating our porch areas (front, rear, and screened in porch) that have been previously treated with Behr Simi-Transparent that was light in color - Will the standard Restore A Deck Stripper/Brightener Kit be enough preparation for re-staining with a semi-transparent stain such as TWP 100 Cedartone 101? Thanks in advance...

It's not clear from the previous discussions. If I have to replace a few boards on my previously stained redwood deck, can I stain them along with the other boards after using the RAD kit?

      TWP Stains · 04/24/2020
You should let the new boards weather for a few months first.

I moved into a home built in 2005. Deck is about half as old as the house. I power washed deck and it lightened it quite a bit. It is in pretty good shape. They used some sort of semi transparent Olympia stain. Can I just use TWP 100 of a similar color and go right over it now, assuming it’s clean? Or what would you recommend? Thanks

      TWP Stains · 04/19/2020
No, if you still have remnants of the Olympic then you need to strip it off with this kit above.

Try a graffiti remover cleaner from your local paint store.

Thanks but I already tried that. Pressure washer with cleaner did nothing. Nor did Gasoline.

We had planned to power wash and sand prep this porch prior to staining, then discovered RAD stripper and brightener. Now - we need to know if the stripper and brightener are safe to use around the screens and the composite “fake” wood deck boards and the patio blocks? That is, safe means no damage and no discoloration? All of the porch, with the exception of the deck boards, is cedar.

      TWP Stains · 04/17/2020
It does not harm composite but you might need to be careful fo the screens of they are made of aluminum.

Would like to strip and stain this deck with a semi transparent stain, so I need the stronger additive and gel additive? And after stripping it will a semi transparent be able to blend the new wood? I believe the stain on there is a brand called Storm catergory 2

      TWP Stains · 04/15/2020
That looks like a solid opaque stain. You will probably not be able to strip this fully off the wood. You can strip as much as possible but you will need to sand as well if you want to use the TWP.

Ok, if I did not want to sand it, what are my other options, solid stain?

          TWP Stains · 04/15/2020
Yes. TWP does not come in a solid stain.

Used TWP 100 on my new deck a year a go. Ready to do the treatment again. So I just just use the stripper and brightener per instructions and coat with the TWP 100 again? I ought to be good for 2-3yrs correct?

I waited 1 year before putting TWP on my cedar deck. After the 1st Canadian winter did the ReStore a Deck strip & brightener process, it seems like I will have to do again this year. Maybe at some point it won't be a yearly thing once the wood has become dry enough to asborb the TWP fully. I can say it is easier than stripping a product like Sikkens.

Use the Cleaner and Brightener and then apply: https://www.twpstain.com/gemini-s-restore-a-deck-cleaner-and-brightener-kit

This porch had Sikkens Cetol semi transparent applied last year.
I would like to switch to TWP. Please advise which product and process (RAD?).
Also have 5 year old never stained, covered front porch. What process for it?
    Thank you!

We plan to use the RAD kit to prep our deck that was previously stained with Cabot Australian Timber Oil 3.5 years ago. It has worn off significantly. Would you recommend the additive, or will the kit be sufficient?

The Stripper Kit should be enough.

I live in San Diego and want to refinish my 3 year old redwood deck. Previously it had penofin transparent redwood penetrating oil. Can I use your stripper and brightener to remove? Do I need any of the additives? I think I have to use the 1500 series due to my location. What color do you recommend for the most natural / clear finish. Thank you
    • We will reply to your comment shortly
      TWP Stains · 03/31/2020
Yes, use the RAD stripper and brightener to remove the Penofin. No need for additives. The 1500 is correct for CA. Honeytone is the lightest tint.

This is my deck after pressure washing. It has been stained several times with TWP 100 and has a few new boards. Should I use the stripper and brightener and then restrain?
    • We will reply to your comment shortly
      TWP Stains · 03/28/2020
yes. Is that Cape Cod? It will be more even and penetrate better if you give it a good stripping.

        Scott · 03/28/2020
Yes it is cape cod. Will it look bad if I don’t use the stripper. Is the stripper a lot of work?
        • We will reply to your comment shortly
          TWP Stains · 03/28/2020
It will not look as even if you do not strip. Stripping is not any harder than cleaning, just removes more.

I want to ask for clarification of my previous question. I know that TWP is not to be applied to new wood. The planks I replaced are new. I think I read some where that deck stripper could be
applied to new wood and stained. Just want to be sure. Thanks again.

      TWP Stains · 10/29/2019
No, the stripper does not allow new wood to be stained.

I have a deck previously stained with TWP. I have replaced five of the decking boards. Can I use the Restore A Deck stripper on the deck and repaint it? I have paint left from the front deck and it is a five gallon can and needs to be used.

I have a 5-6 year old cedar deck that I initially stained using OneTime Deck stain. Will the stripper and brightner help remove the previous stain prior to me using the TWP 100? Also, how frequently will I need to restain the deck using the TWP 100?
