Is this harmful to plants, trees, or animals? Would like to know before I go start spraying my fence on the neighbors side.

It is eco-safe but while using it, you need to take precations to cover plants and keep animals away. Once it all dries, there are not any issues.

Is it possible to tone down 1500 series pecan semi-transparent stain with mineral spirits or linseed oil?  Or, any other way to do so?

You cannot thin it but you can add the TWP 1500 in Clear to tone down the color.

I have two backyard side fences. I have stained one side with one coat of 1500 in pecan color. My wife doesn’t like the color. She thinks it’s too orange-ish.
If I strip & brighten the stained fence and then applied 1500 in ‘natural cedar’, would both fences look the same color.
I have lots of frustration with my wife about this but it’s best not to say why!!
    Thanks for your help

I would highly suggest getting some samples so you are not in trouble again:https://www.twpstain.com/stain-samples

To tone down the orange you can use Dark Oak 1503 or even a combination of the Pecan and Dark Oak.

That is part of the frustrating part.  We did order six samples and applied them on the same fence materials.  My wife and I both agreed that pecan looked good.  Now she'd like me to stain it natural cedar.
If I strip the semi-transparent stain on one fence and then stain both fences with another 1500 series in a color that my wife will hopefully like, will both fences look the same?  I am worried that your stripper/brightener will not be able to remove ALL of the stain, although I would love to be wrong.  I am worried that both fences will not match when all is said and 'stained'.
(If I do re-stain, my wife will probably want it stained a third time, in mauve and fuchsia polka-dots!!)

Yes, it will remove the current stain with the stripper and will match when done.

I tested stripping one fence panel and I am VERY impressed.  At first, as I was pressure washing the stripper/stain off, it didn't seem to change things that much but after it dried it seemed to magically remove the stain.  I haven't tried the brightener, so I'm sure it will help that much more.
Despite that happy result, there are some additional issues that I need more help with (sorry):1. My wife, who seems to be pushing me towards insanity, likes how the stripper turned out.  But now she just wants to go over the pecan semi-transparent with a solid TWP stain.  If we did do that, would the present stain still need to be stripped?2. I am asking my wife to select a different semi-transparent stain.  I thought I saw that natural (or cedar tone) was what the majority of TWP customers purchase.  Is that correct (and in which color)?3. We now have about 7 gallons of pecan 1500 series that we don't know what to do with.  This question may turn out to be a disaster, maybe now, but do you have any suggestions of how to recolor the pecan stain to something that's closer to natural or cedar tone?
(BTW, I just ordered another round of samples)
Thanks very much for all the TA!

              1. TWP does not come in a solid stain. It comes in a semi-solid but it is not allowed in NY.2. TWP 1501 Cedartone is the most popular color.3. You could add the Honeytone or Clear into it to lighten but there is not a ratio or % mix that will match the other 1500 colors.

My boat dock floor, stained 2 years ago, really needs a new coat of stain.  However, the post, stained 4 years ago, seem to be okay.  My plan is to stain the post with one coat of TWP120, then after a couple of days, protect them with plastic while i use the RAD Stripper and Brightener on the floor.  Does this seem reasonable?

I have mahogany window trim on cedar shake house.  Siding is stained with sherwin williams woodscapes and trim has TWP applied 2 years ago (on new material without weathering).  In many areas, TWP is faded and seems as though washed off.  What is the correct prep product (stripper or cleaner) and how to avoid damage to the adjacent siding from overspray of prep product/or when power washing ? Tx

      TWP Stains · 06/16/2021
You cannot spot apply the prep products and not harm the siding from over spray that is right next to it. You would have to redo the stain on the siding as well for all. It would be easier to sand the trim for prep. Use 80 grit paper and one coat of stain after.

thought that might be the answer, even oil on oil? Oh well, thank you! was curious to know what the finish would look like, whether or not it would have a sheen or lustred look. Always appreciate your insight! Joe

Curious about the following: cedar deck, installed summer of 2020, aged over winter (live in the north east), cleaned, brightened, sanded, brightened again, finish with single coat of AC semi transparent Cedar. looks great. Question: could I apply a topcoat of TWP 1500 clear preservative once the AC stain has cure? thanks!

No, you can never apply a clear sealer over a deck stain. It will peel.

Our pressure treated wood deck is over 15 years old and has Honey Brown Rymar Wood Sealer on it that's probably 6 years old (and the same stain was used 4 years before that). We're planning to use TWP 1501 Cedartone. Do we just need to use the RAD Stripper/Brightener Kit before applying the TWP?

Do we need to use the additives when stripping or is it not necessary for the type of stain we’re removing?

Can the stripper and brightener be applied in a light rain?
I was also reading about the wet on wet application process and it sounds like we only need to do a single application to the vertical surfaces (spindles), and we'll go over the horizontal surfaces a second time w/in 10-60 min of the first application. Is that right?

I applied 100 to new cedar wood 6 months ago. Intent was to keep wood in good shape over winter. I want to apply a semi transparent stain over it now. How do I prepare the wood to accept new stain.

have two yr red wood deck. unfortunately, used sherwin williams superdeck/ducksback semi transparent oil stain recommended by their reg manager. the stain looked fine initially and several weeks later lifted off in some areas and appears to have run streaking the wood. second time handed sanded the deck to bare redwood and repeated process second time. same thing happened. third attempt sanded again and was furnished semi transparent oil base super deck by sherwin also with a deck cleaner and was assured it would work. one month later same thing happened. even their rep is clueless on what to do. nothing wrong with the redwood. want to use a TPW oil based product this time but being told by a third party that some kind of cleaner/stripper must be used because the oil from the superdeck must be removed first before applying your oil based stain. what do u recommend for the fourth time trying to stain a deck. shouldn't be the headache and costs it has run . also, what process, product or line do u recommend and I prefer a more intense color than your red barn sample.thanks

Do you have to apply the stripper and brightener with a spray tool or can you roll it on and rinse off with pressure washer?

Apply with a pump sprayer and pressure wash off.

After applying the RAD stripper with a sprayer, do you scrub the deck wood?  Or just hose it off?The same question for the Brightener?

You pressure wash it off after 15 minutes. The brightener you just rinse off after 15 minutes.

Thanks for response. Behr product left splotchy areas where that product lifted from wood. Original plan is to use stripper all areas, use large commercial sander and the brightener. Will brightener raise wood fibers  requiring another light sanding? Thanks - John

      TWP Stains · 05/05/2021
Never sand after applying the brightener. You want the grain to raise so the TWP can soak in deeper. When sanding prior, use no more that 60-80 grit.

Central Oklahoma area: 1200 sqft PT deck previously stained with Behr product 2 yrs ago. Want to strip/prep and use TWP 120 Pecan. Somewhat confused regarding using Restore-A-Deck kit or should I use stripper and then brightener. PT wood has been down 3 yrs. Thanks - John

Based on what I've read, I'm assuming the Restore-a-Deck stripper does not harm the latex paint coated wood siding; is that correct?  Also, when applying TWP100 stain is it acceptable to use a short-napped, approximately 1" diameter roller? The stain seems to apply very evenly when I use that method.  Thanks.

I stained my new cedar deck using TWP 100 one year ago and in some spots the stain has come off exposing the wood.  I didn't wait for a period of time before I stained it and I'm guessing that's why the stain has failed in some areas.  Should I use the stripper and brighten, then re-stain, or just use the cleaner and brightener?  If I need to strip, do I need the additives?  Thanks.
