I’ve used other brand stripper and brightener products that left the wood with a fur or fuzz afterwards. Does Restore a Deck behave similarly? And if so, does the Booster make that worse? Thank you.

We will reply to your comment shortly· 09/08/2021Do you suggest using the additives. - Gel and or Booster if stripping siding that was finished last year with TWP1500? Or is the additives more for using with other, more stubborn stain products?

We will reply to your comment shortlyWe have a five year old pressure treated deck that’s been treated multiple times with Thompson’s Semi-transparent water seal… it looks awful and splotchy, so we want to remove it and restain with TWP (1500 I believe, since we’re in MA). Would this product help me remove the Water Seal and prep the deck? Thanks so much!

We will reply to your comment shortlyIt may not remove all as you have a filming coating that is on top of the wood and is acting like a solid stain now. Use the RAD Stripper with both additives: https://www.twpstain.com/wood-stain-strippers/rad-stripper-additives
Let dwell for 45-60 minutes (mist to keep it from drying out) and then pressure wash off. If needed, let dry and sand any stubborn areas that do not strip. Brightener after all is removed.

We will reply to your comment shortlyHi. Just to confirm, if reapplying the same 100 series stain to my deck a year after initial application, only cleaning and brightening is required, rather than stripping, correct?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyCorrect.

We will reply to your comment shortlyWe are staining a fence with TWP100. The older portion of fence was built and stained 16 years ago in clear; and the newer part of the fence has never been stained or coated at all. I am planning to strip and brighten the older fence with RAD. Should I switch products and use the Gemini Clean-Brighten kit for the newer-never coated fence part? OR--Is it OK to use the stripper on that too just to be less confusing for the painters and to buy one less product, or is that too extreme for that part?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYou would need the cleaner for the never-stained wood.

We will reply to your comment shortlyRedwood deck. I used RAD cleaner and brightener Saturday then TWP semi-solid on Sunday. I'm realizing now that TWP is not a RAD product and probably falls under the "wait 48hrs" rule. Will I have to start over?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyIt is most likley fine as long as the wood was dry when you stained it.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have a red cedar greenhouse built in 2020. Stained with Arborcoat clear stain from Benjamin Moore. Every piece was stained before the kit was assembled. It did exactly the opposite of what I desired. Initially it looked great but by the fall of last year it started to blacken. Now it looks worst than if nothing was done. My question is, would Restore a Deck stripper and brightener remove the blackened areas? Would it harm the plexiglass panels? Would I require the gel for vertical areas? I would then stain with your cedar tone 201 which I had used on my decks, after the fact. Wish I would have used it on the greenhouse.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyUse the RAD Stripper with both additives for this and then the brightener. It should not harm the plexiglass.

-
We will reply to your comment shortlyCan I use a solid paint stripper and then the rad stripper and brightener
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyA paint stripper can be used first if needed but in most cases, it will not remove paint or a solid stain from a deck.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyIs this harmful to plants, trees, or animals? Would like to know before I go start spraying my fence on the neighbors side.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyIt is eco-safe but while using it, you need to take precations to cover plants and keep animals away. Once it all dries, there are not any issues.

We will reply to your comment shortlyIs it possible to tone down 1500 series pecan semi-transparent stain with mineral spirits or linseed oil? Or, any other way to do so?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYou cannot thin it but you can add the TWP 1500 in Clear to tone down the color.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have two backyard side fences. I have stained one side with one coat of 1500 in pecan color. My wife doesn’t like the color. She thinks it’s too orange-ish.
If I strip & brighten the stained fence and then applied 1500 in ‘natural cedar’, would both fences look the same color.
I have lots of frustration with my wife about this but it’s best not to say why!!
Thanks for your help-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI would highly suggest getting some samples so you are not in trouble again:https://www.twpstain.com/stain-samples
To tone down the orange you can use Dark Oak 1503 or even a combination of the Pecan and Dark Oak.-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThat is part of the frustrating part. We did order six samples and applied them on the same fence materials. My wife and I both agreed that pecan looked good. Now she'd like me to stain it natural cedar.
If I strip the semi-transparent stain on one fence and then stain both fences with another 1500 series in a color that my wife will hopefully like, will both fences look the same? I am worried that your stripper/brightener will not be able to remove ALL of the stain, although I would love to be wrong. I am worried that both fences will not match when all is said and 'stained'.
(If I do re-stain, my wife will probably want it stained a third time, in mauve and fuchsia polka-dots!!)-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes, it will remove the current stain with the stripper and will match when done.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI tested stripping one fence panel and I am VERY impressed. At first, as I was pressure washing the stripper/stain off, it didn't seem to change things that much but after it dried it seemed to magically remove the stain. I haven't tried the brightener, so I'm sure it will help that much more.
Despite that happy result, there are some additional issues that I need more help with (sorry):1. My wife, who seems to be pushing me towards insanity, likes how the stripper turned out. But now she just wants to go over the pecan semi-transparent with a solid TWP stain. If we did do that, would the present stain still need to be stripped?2. I am asking my wife to select a different semi-transparent stain. I thought I saw that natural (or cedar tone) was what the majority of TWP customers purchase. Is that correct (and in which color)?3. We now have about 7 gallons of pecan 1500 series that we don't know what to do with. This question may turn out to be a disaster, maybe now, but do you have any suggestions of how to recolor the pecan stain to something that's closer to natural or cedar tone?
(BTW, I just ordered another round of samples)
Thanks very much for all the TA!-
We will reply to your comment shortly1. TWP does not come in a solid stain. It comes in a semi-solid but it is not allowed in NY.2. TWP 1501 Cedartone is the most popular color.3. You could add the Honeytone or Clear into it to lighten but there is not a ratio or % mix that will match the other 1500 colors.

We will reply to your comment shortlyMy boat dock floor, stained 2 years ago, really needs a new coat of stain. However, the post, stained 4 years ago, seem to be okay. My plan is to stain the post with one coat of TWP120, then after a couple of days, protect them with plastic while i use the RAD Stripper and Brightener on the floor. Does this seem reasonable?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes, that should be okay.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have mahogany window trim on cedar shake house. Siding is stained with sherwin williams woodscapes and trim has TWP applied 2 years ago (on new material without weathering). In many areas, TWP is faded and seems as though washed off. What is the correct prep product (stripper or cleaner) and how to avoid damage to the adjacent siding from overspray of prep product/or when power washing ? Tx
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYou cannot spot apply the prep products and not harm the siding from over spray that is right next to it. You would have to redo the stain on the siding as well for all. It would be easier to sand the trim for prep. Use 80 grit paper and one coat of stain after.

-
We will reply to your comment shortlyIf I add the thickening gel to the stripper for my vertical posts will it work in my sprayer? If not, how is it applied? Thank you.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes, it can be sprayed with a quality pump sprayer.

We will reply to your comment shortlyFinished step 1 cleaning yesterday and redwood deck has dried overnight, should I rewet with water before brightener, soaking wet (puddles) or just mist? Thanks,Joe
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyJust mist.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlythought that might be the answer, even oil on oil? Oh well, thank you! was curious to know what the finish would look like, whether or not it would have a sheen or lustred look. Always appreciate your insight! Joe
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyNo sheen and it will peel.

We will reply to your comment shortlyCurious about the following: cedar deck, installed summer of 2020, aged over winter (live in the north east), cleaned, brightened, sanded, brightened again, finish with single coat of AC semi transparent Cedar. looks great. Question: could I apply a topcoat of TWP 1500 clear preservative once the AC stain has cure? thanks!
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyNo, you can never apply a clear sealer over a deck stain. It will peel.

-
We will reply to your comment shortlyOur pressure treated wood deck is over 15 years old and has Honey Brown Rymar Wood Sealer on it that's probably 6 years old (and the same stain was used 4 years before that). We're planning to use TWP 1501 Cedartone. Do we just need to use the RAD Stripper/Brightener Kit before applying the TWP?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes, that is correct.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyDo we need to use the additives when stripping or is it not necessary for the type of stain we’re removing?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyDo you have a picture of the current condition that you can post?

We will reply to your comment shortlyCan the stripper and brightener be applied in a light rain?
I was also reading about the wet on wet application process and it sounds like we only need to do a single application to the vertical surfaces (spindles), and we'll go over the horizontal surfaces a second time w/in 10-60 min of the first application. Is that right?-
We will reply to your comment shortlyLight rain, yes. Not pouring rain. Application is correct.
